Day 8: Tourette Awareness 2020

This is a list of SOME of the tics that people with TS can have, they are good examples of obvious and not so obvious tics. These particular tics are a few of the many that I personally have.

Tics:
Throat clearing
Grunting
Sniffing
Coughing
Humming
I used to squeak and do not now (was with me for about 2 years in highschool)
I used to tongue click and do not now (it comes and goes)
Repeating words
Repeating phrases
Repeating parts of words
Change in voice
Mumbling
Singing
Blinking Eyes
Facial grimacing
Rolling eyes
Squinting
Tensing muscles
Grinding teeth/clenching jaw
Fiddling with clothes
Multiple tics in sequence
Picking at skin
Intrusive thoughts
Fears/Phobias
Thoughts constantly going to certain topics (one track mind)

Characteristics:
Perception problems
Mood fluctuations
Sensitive to noise, light, touch, feel of clothing

Other symptoms:
Echolalia
Palilalia
Obsessive: concerns health/self
Concerns with welfare of loved ones
Washing hands repeatedly
Rechecking

Associated Disorders (comorbidities)
ADHD
OCD
Slow processing speed
Anxiety
Learning disabilities
Mood disorders
Sensory integration dysfunction (sensory processing disorders)
Sleep disorders
Migraines
Phobias

These things are all part of me, but they do not define me. These are things that I work with every day to improve who I am and how I show up in this world. I work hard to be the best person I can be, and not let these things slow me down or be harmful to myself and others. I find ways to cope, adapt and grow.

This is a small glimpse into my world with Tourette Syndrome.
